The Atari Punk Console is a basic step-tone generator using 555 timer ICs. Sean M. built one after the Audio Open House to use a somewhat unique case with convenient features. In particular, it includes an internal speaker as well as a 1/4 inch audio jack for output, with the output being selected via a large blade switch. video
