A hand-clap as received on a simulated 4-mic array (left) and a real 4-mic array (right). The simulated array had a spacing of 6", while the real array had somewhat different spacing due to human error (easily calibrated out). Notice that mic 4 of the real array is very coarse, as its gain was unintentionally set too low at record time. Also notice that the amplitudes of each successive mic in the real array gets progressively lower: this is due to the near-field nature of the recording, and could be calibrated out using gain models, or made insignificant by placing the sound source in the far field.
